Manchester United v Chelsea – Match Preview and Betting Tip

Betting Tips | Article posted on May 1st, 2025

Manchester United will find themselves in an unusual position for the second time in two weeks, when they entertain Chelsea at Old Trafford. Last weekend they drew at Arsenal, in a game with a traditional rival that meant far more to the Gunners than United. This weekend, another rival will play United, with a place in the top four potentially at stake for the Blues, while United cannot even claim to be chasing a record Premier League points total any more.

The tenure of Rafael Benitez at Stamford Bridge has been a contenious, stormy and largely regrettable one. At one time it looked as if he was on the verge of getting the bullet from an ‘interim’ position. Yet, in retrospect, Chelsea fans may be forced to look back at the Spaniard’s incredibly unpopular stewardship of the club and grudgingly concede that he did a good job in difficult circumstances.

Firstly, Chelsea look likely to claim a Champions League place next season through their Premier League position, which is more than they achieved last season. Secondly, Benitez has done well for the club in Europe, winning his only Champions League tie emphatically and putting the club in a position to win the Europa League. And, finally, he has also handled a period in which young players are replacing Chelsea stalwarts such as John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, and the departed Didier Drogba, rather well.

Thus, the Blues will go into this game in an optimistic frame of mind, having picked up a useful home victory against Fulham last time out. It seems likely that Benitez will field Oscar, Mata and Hazard together in midfield. Sir Alex Ferguson has a wealth of options at his disposal, but may give Danny Welbeck a starting berth, with the England forward having been benched of late.

Betting Prediction

Chelsea have a decent record at Old Trafford, having drawn there in the FA Cup just weeks ago, and in a match in which they are far more likely to be motivated than their opponents, I fancy that they will pick up a point again. Although the majority of recent encounters between these sides have been high scoring, I think this one will buck the trend, so I’m tipping United and Chelsea to draw 1-1 in this fixture. I also recommend the under 2.5 goals and both teams to score markets.

Final Scoreline Prediction:Manchester United 1 – 1 Chelsea

Other Recommended Bets: Under 2.5 Goals, Both Teams to Score.
