Mancini Under Real Pressure at City
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is facing the toughest period of his reign as Manchester City manager, after his team were turned over rather spinelessly by Southampton on Saturday.
With City already eliminated from all European football for the season, and facing a crunch FA Cup tie with Leeds on Sunday, some sources are reporting that Mancini could be removed from his position should City lose to the Championship outfit, thus ensuring that the oil rich club do not win a trophy this season.
What may be more realistic is that Mancini may be removed from his duties as City manager in the summer. With Jose Mourinho highly likely to become available, the Abu Dhabi-based owners of the club would almost certainly move to install the world’s most high profile manager in the City hotseat.
However, this could be complicated by the fact that Chelsea are also highly likely to be in the market for a new manager in the summer, with current boss Rafael Benitez only having been appointed on an ‘interim’ basis, and with the Spaniard having been a monumentally unpopular choice as the Blues boss. No-one is quite sure of the relationship between Chelsea oligarch Roman Abramovich and Mourinho, and to whether the Portugese would be willing to go back.
But it is reasonable to expect to see him managing a team in blue next season.
