Marquinhos Rejects Barca Rumours
The Roma central defender Marquinhos has poured scorn on reports that suggest he will make a beeline for Barcelona in the summer. The young Brazilian centre-back, who is just eighteen years-old, has been rumoured in the Italian press to be making a move to the soon to be crowned La Liga winners during the summer off-season.
Barcelona have struggled defensively this season, and the lack of a dominant centre-back to partner Gerard Pique appeared to be a major factor in their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals. Many other central defenders have also been linked with the Camp Nou, with Manchester City’s Belgian defender Vincent Kompany thought to be high on the list of targets.
Marquinhos has broken into the Roma first-team this season, and has turned in some impressive performances in Serie A. The young defender is thought to be on the verge of a call-up to the full Brazilian national team, having previously played for the under-17s. Marquinhos was only signed from the Brazilian club Corinthians in the summer of 2025.
Nonetheless, it appears that for the time being, Marquinhos is happy with his role in Rome, and is not looking for a Spanish transfer any time soon.
