Newcastle United v Manchester City – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Introduction
This is the most attractive of the second batch of League Cup ties being played this week, with Manchester City’s awesomely strong squad liable to give them the luxury of playing numerous squad players as they travel to Newcastle. The likes of Pantillimon, Richards, Lescott, Milner, Jovetic and Dzeko may feature in the City starting line-up, which will be pretty formidable whoever plays. Newcastle and their supporters are extremely keen to break a trophy duck which goes back far too long, and will thus view this as an extremely important fixture.
Winner
This game would usually see City be big favourites, and certainly the bookmakers see it that way, but its relative lack of importance to the away side could give Newcastle a chance. City are likely to field numerous players who haven’t had much first-team football so far this season, and I think Newcastle’s first-choice line-up, which Pardrew is surely likely to field, might be good enough to win the game. However, City will still probably have more quality on display, so I’m going for a draw.
My tip: Draw

Correct Score
I don’t think this will be the highest scoring game, but at the same time neither side is likely to keep a clean sheet, given the quality of City’s forwards and the changes they are likely to make that the back. I’m tipping a low-scoring draw.
My tip: 1-1 draw
Best odds: 8/1 with BetVictor
Under / Over 2.5 Goals
My tip: Under 2.5 goals

First Goalscorer
It’s always tricky to predict this market, and whenever we’re unsure on who will start, it becomes doubly difficult. Both teams could rotate their forwards, while I see many of the most obvious goal scoring midfielders from City’s line-up being benched. Stevan Jovetic is a high-class player who may be handed a start, and he netted a brace in City’s last League Cup tie, so he is my tip for this market.
My tip: Stevan Jovetic
