Newcastle United v Arsenal – Match Preview and Betting Tip

Betting Tips | Article posted on May 15th, 2025

By virtue of thrashing a tiring Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal ensured that they go into their last Premier League fixture of the season ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and with their Champions League destiny firmly in their own hands. Ironically, Arsenal also did their opponents for their final game of the season, Newcastle United, a rather large favour, as Wigan’s defeat condemned them to the Championship, and ensured that Newcastle’s final fixture of the season is entirely meaningless from their perspective.

If Arsenal began the season in highly unconvincing fashion, they have finished it in the completely opposite vein. Since losing to Tottenham Hotspur on 3rd March, Arsenal have won eight matches and drawn two in all competitions, scoring twenty goals and conceding just five. This was exactly the reaction that Arsene Wenger demanded from his team, and the Frenchman is one more positive result away from ensuring that he retains his proud record of securing Champions League football in every season that he has managed the Gunners.

Both of these clubs will in fact be looking forward to next season with relish. Should Arsenal secure their top four finish – indeed, they may yet catch and overtake Chelsea – there is talk of Arsenal having a £70 million transfer kitty to spend in the summer. Already the back pages are dripping with news of Arsenal’s supposed interest in Wayne Rooney.

Newcastle will almost certainly be considerably less active in the transfer market, but they may bring their former striker Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park. Their current playing squad looks to be easily strong enough to fare better than they have this season, and the Toon Army will be keen to put this disappointing campaign behind them and push for a top half finish next season.

Arsenal have a couple of selection dilemmas for this fixture. Jack Wilshere could start after sitting out the last couple of games, while Olivier Giroud could also start. More likely, though, is that Rosicky and Podolski will retain their places.

Betting Prediction

Arsenal are in tremendous form and must win to secure their Champions League place, Newcastle have taken some horrible hammerings on their home turf of late, and have nothing to play for. It’s hard to pick anything other than an emphatic Arsenal victory. I’m tipping Newcastle United 1 – 3 Arsenal.

Final Scoreline Prediction:Newcastle United 1 – 3 Arsenal

Other Recommended Bets: Over 2.5 Goals, Both Teams to Score.
