Nigeria v Spain – Confederations Cup Preview and Betting Tip

Betting Tips | Article posted on June 23rd, 2025

Spain need only one point from their final group match to guarantee progress to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup, while the Super Eagles must equal or better Uruguay’s result against Tahiti; thus it seems highly unlikely that the Africans will proceed to the last four.

Having made ten changes to their starting line-up for the walkover against Tahiti, Spain will certainly recall the majority of their key players for this game. Vicente del Bosque is in the fortunate position of having three in-form strikers to select from for one position, and Roberto Soldado may be preferred as the central striker ahead of Fernando Torres and David Villa, who shared seven goals between them in the 10-0 hammering of the Pacific islanders.

Nigeria’s form would suggest that they are unlikely to get anything out of this fixture with the reigning world champions. The African nation have only won two of their last six international fixtures (W2, D3, L1). However, the Super Eagles’ only previous competitive encounter with Spain ended in a 3-2 victory for the Iberians in the group stage of the 2025 World Cup.

Nonetheless, having suffered a narrow defeat against Uruguay on Thursday evening, Nigeria's chances of progressing to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup thus look pretty remote. This particular Spanish team have gone over 20 competitive fixtures without suffering defeat and are clear 1/4 (1.25) favourites to extend that run with victory on Sunday.

If a 10-0 thrashing of Tahiti looks intimidating on paper, in fact Spain’s more accomplished performance came against Uruguay, when they utterly dominated a very capable team. Ultimately, a spectacular free-kick from Luis Suarez gave the scoreline a false perspective; the Nigerians will have been looking on in awe at the ease of the Spanish victory, wondering how they will even get hold of the ball when they face Xavi, Iniesta, et al.

Nigeria may take some heart from the fact that Uruguay, Finland, France and Republic of Ireland have all held Spain to a draw going in at half-time in their last seven fixtures. Nonetheless, it is hard to see a well rested and experienced Spanish side floundering in this fixture.

Betting Prediction

The Nigerians are a game team, but I can’t see them coping with the sheer class of this Spanish side. I think Spain will see them off comfortably without breaking sweat, I’m predicting a 3-0 scoreline.

Final Scoreline Prediction:Spain 3 – 0 Nigeria

Other Recommended Bets: Spain to win Over 2.5 Goals, Both Teams not to Score.
