Pellegrini Set to Take Over at Manchester City
The British press was widely reporting today that Malaga’s current coach, Manuel Pellegrini, will take over at the Etihad Stadium next season. This news broke before the FA Cup final, but City’s defeat against Wigan in that match will hardly have improved Mancini’s future prospects at the club.
Pellegrini steered Malaga to Champions League football last season, and is one of the most highly-rated coaches in Spain. There are also rumours that City are interested in bringing the young and hugely gifted Malaga midfielder Isco to the Etihad Stadium as well.
Mancini will go down in history as the manager who brought both trophies and the league title to Manchester City after decades of famine. But this season has been far from one that has gone according to plan. City exited the Champions League limply in the group stages, and have never looked like defending their Premier League crown since losing to Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. Mancini robustly dismissed the rumours after the defeat to Wigan Athletic, but they will doubtless continue.
Malaga have had another successful season in La Liga this season, currently being placed sixth. Isco, meanwhile, has earned a series of rave reviews and is already a full Spanish international.
