Mike Norman brings us the action and In-Play odds matched from this afternoon’s games in the Premier League and FA Cup…
Liverpool are the new 1.728/11 favourites with Betfair to win the Premier League title after a 3-2 win over Manchester City at Anfield this afternoon.
The Reds got off to the perfect start when Raheem Sterling – matched at 22.021/1 in the First Goalscorer market – put the home side ahead insdie six minutes with a quite brilliant finish.
The youngster was played in behind the City defence by a sublime Luis Suarez pass but he still had plenty to do to score. But Sterling showed great composure in holding up the ball before side-stepping Vincent Komany and Joe Hart to slot home into an empty net.
Liverpool have been the masters of starting games quickly this season and they could quite easily have made it 2-0 when first Daniel Sturridge steered the ball wide from an excellent Sterling cross, and then Steven Gerrard saw his free header saved by Hart.
But from the resulting corner Brendan Rodgers’ men did make it two when Martin Skrtel’s inch perfect glancing header found its way into the back of the net. The centre back was matched at 17.5n/a to score at any time.
The Reds were rampant by this point and had a few chances to extend their lead, while at the other end City perhaps should have been awarded a penalty when Mamadou Sakho brought down Edin Dzeko, before a Kompany header was cleared off the line on the stroke of half time.
The 2-0 Half Time Score was matched at 16.5n/a.
The second half started in a more even fashion than the first and it wasn’t until the 57th minute that we got some goalmouth action, and it resulted in a goal for Man City.
Some neat passing play resulted in James Milner getting behind the Liverpool defence, and the Englishman played a lovely ball across the six-yard box to David Silva who had no trouble directing the ball into the net.
And incredibly, just five minutes later City were level after a one-two between Silva and Samir Nasri led to Silva cutting the ball back across goal only for the ball to deflect into the Liverpool net off Glen Johnson.
The home side looked in a state of shock for 10 minutes and a poor Jordan Henderson pass
