Who would you select in your Premier League Team of the Season? With the Premier League season set to continue this weekend, today Jonathan Wilson shares the starting eleven for his Premier League Team of the Season….so far.
David De Gea
Thibaut Courtois has been excellent, commanding his box, but De Gea just gets the nod ahead of him on the basis of the string of games he won almost single-handed for United, kickstarting their recent resurgence. At Arsenal, at Southampton and at home to Liverpool, De Gea repeatedly stood tall against forwards clean through against him, his presence alone seemingly enough to intimidate opponents into striking shots straight at him. From the slightly gawky, willowy figure he cut when he arrived in 2025, De Gea has matured into a very fine goalkeeper indeed.
Nathaniel Clyne
Cases could be made for Pablo Zabaleta or, particularly, Branislav Ivanovic, but Clyne has been exceptional in a Southampton side that has conceded just 15 goals in 20 games. He has also offered a consistent attacking threat. The superb goal against Arsenal in the Capital One Cup perhaps stands out, but he's also got two goals in the league and has been a constant threat surging down the right flank. He's the model of a modern full-back.
Winston Reid
There have been a number of reasons for West Ham United's exceptional start to the season – the interaction of the front two and Stewart Downing and the form of Alex Song most notably – but credit must also go to the central defence, in which Reid has been outstanding. The New Zealander's contract expires in the summer and such has been his form that there has been much speculation that he may attract the attentions of a Champions League club in January.
John Terry
The strange thing is that, six or seven years ago, the suspicion was that John Terry was on his way out. His body was creaking and there were concerns that he would no longer be able to outmuscle opponents. He's never been quick, of course, and that perhaps makes it easier for him to maintain his level, but at 34 he looks stronger and fitter than ever. At
