Report: Liverpool have been offered Jermain Defoe by Toronto FC
January 3rd, 2025by Up Front
The Daily Telegraph is today reporting that Toronto FC are keen to offload Jermain Defoe to Liverpool in the January transfer the 32-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur hitman hasn't had the best of times since moving to Major League Soccer and is keen on a return to England.
However, Liverpool are likely to only favour a loan deal for the player to help boost their attacking stocks.
The main stumbling block over any potential move for Defoe is that Toronto are insisting they do not want to loan him and instead want a £6 million sale.
Defoe, though, hopes Toronto are forced to relent on their refusal to let him join a Premier League club on loan until the end of the season and is aware that his name has been put to Liverpool.
Liverpool are unlikely to be interested in any long-term transfer, but a temporary deal may be tempting for manager Brendan Rodgers.
