Rooney Misses Community Shield as Saga Continues
The BBC report that Wayne Rooney will miss the Community Shield curtain raiser with Wigan Athletic on Sunday, as the England striker is suffering from a shoulder injury. This is sure to raise speculation that this isn’t the real reason, though, as Chelsea continue to seek the signature of what is generally considered to be England’s best footballer.
The transfer broth is thickened by the fact that Roy Hodgson has already named Rooney in his England squad for the friendly with Scotland. It is incredibly unusual for a club to allow a player to join up with an international squad while they are unfit for club selection, particularly at a club of the size of Manchester United.
goal reports that Hodgson is eager to avoid a rift with Manchester United, but one must wonder whether Rooney will stay at Old Trafford. The Daily Telegraph report that Arsenal are ready to re-enter the hunt to sign the 27 year-old forward, and it seems increasingly that his future lies away from Manchester.
