Rooney Rehabilitates United Career
Wayne Rooney’s performance in Manchester United’s Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen suggests that any immediate doubts that existed about his career at Old Trafford can be put to bed. The striker scored twice, and could have had a hat-trick, as he took his tally in the last couple of games to three goals.
When asked whether he was happy to stay Old Trafford, though, Rooney was somewhat evasive, and trotted out some rather cliched phrases, before getting quite annoyed when he was asked if he had requested to leave the club in the summer.
It seems that though he didn’t answer either question, the lack of an answer made the reality of the situation quite clear. It is obvious that Rooney did ask to leave United, and that his future at the club is far from certain.
Though his short-term form looks to be excellent, his long-term football career may not be played out in Manchester.
