Rooney Set for Old Trafford Exit?
Wayne Rooney has been an iconic figure throughout his footballing career, ever since he announced his rare ability by scoring a dramatic late winner against Arsenal at Goodison Park, aged only 16. Since then Rooney has consistently been England’s premier footballer for over a decade, as well as frequently being the central figure at Old Trafford.
Thus, the Merseyside born forward is not particularly acclimated to some of the experiences he has undergone this season. He’s not used to being benched for key Champions League ties. He’s not used to playing numerous different positions, almost on a weekly basis. He’s not used to other players taking a more prominent role in the team than him. And he’s not used to being considered the number two striker at a club.
But Rooney has had to tolerate all of the above this season, his increasing marginalisation at Old Trafford leading many to believe that he will move at the end of the season. Paris Saint-Germain apparently wait in the wings ready to sign the 27 year-old, who would surely not be sold to another English club by United. The club currently deny this is a possibility, but the question remains: how long will United be willing to pay marquee wages to a bit part player?
