Spain v Italy – Confederations Cup Preview and Betting Tip

Betting Tips | Article posted on June 26th, 2025

The second Confederation Cup semi-finals will be played on Wednesday, and it is a truly iconic fixture, as the European and World champions Spain come up against Italy. Naturally enough, the Spanish are favourites for the fixture and to ultimately lift the trohpy, but will know that a proud Italian side will not lie down in front of them.

However, Spain have impressed in the tournament so far, netting 15 times in the group stages, while also at the back too. Spain have conceded just the one goal on their travels to the semis – an unstoppable free-kick from Luis Suarez.

Italy, unusually, have been pretty leaky at the back thus far, conceding just as many as they scored (eight) in the group stages. On paper the Italian defence still looks pretty solid, but it has been a different matter on the pitch, and Spain will be looking to open up the Italians at the back with their inch perfect passes from the likes of Iniesta, Fabreags and Xavi.

Thus, if Italy are to have any hope in this particular match then they are going to have to hope that their midfield maestros Marchisio, Montolivo and Pirlo can do a good job of protecting their back four, while offering something on the break, as it seems certain that Spain will rule the roost as usual in terms of possession and territorial dominance.

Being the tournament’s top scorer, Fernando Torres could start, but Spain coach del Bosque may choose to keep faith with Roberto Soldado, who scored against Uruguay.

Betting Prediction

I can see nothing but a Spain win here – with the Italians finding it difficult to get the ball off the Japanese I can't see them getting hold of it much during this game. Spain have looked supremely confident throughout this tournament, and I expect them to progress fairly comfortably to the final.

Final Scoreline Prediction:Spain 2 – 0 Italy

Other Recommended Bets: Spain to win Under 2.5 Goals, Both Teams not to Score.
