Swansea City v Manchester United – Match Preview and Betting Tip
David Moyes’ tenure in his position as Manchester United manager begins with a tricky fixture away against a talented Swansea City team. The Swans fared extremely well in their first season under Michael Laurdrup, and will be a difficult proposition for all visitors to the Liberty Stadium this season, particularly as they have made a more than useful acquisition in the shape of Wilfred Bony. United will want three points, though, with an extremely difficult series of fixtures to follow in the near future.
Winner
Manchester United are the favourite to win here, but not as strong a favourite as would perhaps be expected, as the bookmakers recognise that the home side are a formidable team on their home turf in particular. Thus, one can get marginally better than even odds on a United win, if you wish to go down this route. I think the draw here offers particularly good value, though. Swansea have already begun their season, having already progressed through the first-round of their UEFA Cup qualifying campaign. I expect them to be pretty sharp for this fixture, while United may still me trying to find their feet in this one. Thus, I feel that this will ultimately be a draw, and that United will have to wait until at least their second fixture to pick up their first win. Best odds available on this are 13/5 with Stan James.
Correct Score
This could be a very open game, certainly both teams generally like to playing a relatively attacking brand of football. However, it’s not too often that the opening day sees high scoring games, as players strain to re-establish the understanding that they’d built up during the previous season. Thus, I can see this being a low-scoring draw, with the two teams sharing a couple of goals, for a final scoreline of Swansea City 1 – 1 Manchester United. The best odds available for this outcome are 7-1 with BetVictor.
Under / Over 2.5 Goals
In concurrence with my tip for the previous market, I am going for the under 2.5 goals bet for this market. This is available at best odds of 21/20 with Coral.
Winning Margin
I’m tipping this match to be a score draw, which can be had at odds of 18/5 with BetVIctor.
First Goalscorer
Lots of options for this market, with both teams potentially scoring during the game. Of course, Robin van Persie, the top Premier League goalscorer from last season, is the favourite for the market, with his odds around 4/1. Several other United forwards also come in at a similar level, but I wouldn’t recommend backing either Javier Hernandez, who is unlikely to start, or Wayne Rooney, who is yet to achieve full match fitness. Danny Welbeck could be worth a look, though, having scored in mid-week for England, even though he only scored one league goal last season. Swansea’s Michu is the favourite for them in this market, but I would suggest that the 16/1 available on Nathan Dyer is unmissable, so he is my tip for this market.
