Introduction

Newcastle United have shaken off the drama and disorder off the field to pick up an extremely creditable 16 points from their last seven matches, to push themselves to the verge of the Champions League places. While it seems unlikely that they can sustain such a challenge in what is an incredibly competitive Premier League, a top six finish is plausible. It is indicative of the form of Newcastle that the supremely gifted Hatem Ben Arfa is currently benched. Swansea look too good to go down and are not big enough to seriously challenge for a top eight finish, but they will want to pick up as many points as possible to ensure their Premier League survival.

Winner

Newcastle have been in excellent form in recent fixtures, and the signing of Loic Remy from QPR looks to be an inspired one. While Swansea are a capable side, I think that despite not being in front of the ever passionate St. James’ Park crowd Newcastle will have too much for them.

This should be an attractive fixture between two of the best midfields in the Premier League. Both teams like to pass the ball, and this could be one of the better games to watch in the Premier League this season.
