The Big Wednesday Multiple: Brazilian champs to get the job done
It’s that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections…
Bet 1: Gremio (HOME) @ 1.8 (4/5) – Available on Betfair Live Video at 02:00 BST
Our home win comes from Brazil as Gremio look set to continue their excellent record in front of their own fans at the expense of San Lorenzo.
Gremio lost the first leg in Argentina last week but the score was only 1-0 and they are a different proposition in Porto Alegre. They rarely lose there and they warmed up for this clash with a Campeonato victory over Atletico Mineiro on Sunday night.
During the group phase of this competition, Enderson Moreira’s side won two of their three outings at home – drawing the other – without conceding a single goal. They are a very solid team and certainly won’t be panicked into chasing the game from an early stage.
San Lorenzo are having a magnificent campaign as not only are they through to the last 16 of the Libertadores, they tasted domestic success by finishing top of the Torneo Inicial.
Edgardo Bauza will have been pleased that his men could build a first leg lead, but they were hardly convincing in their performance in what turned out to be a very drab affair. This will be a whole new test entirely and their record on the road in this competition this year is played three, lost two, drawn one.
Bet 2: Cruzeiro (AWAY) @ 2.1 (11/10) - Available on Betfair Live Video at 02:00 BST
We stay in the Copa Libertadores for our away win as Brazilian champions, Cruzeiro, look like good value to get the win they need to progress to the quarter-finals.
Paraguayan outfit, Cerro Porteno, came within seconds of causing a huge upset in the first leg of this tie a fortnight ago as they led Cruzeiro by a goal to nil well into injury time. They couldn’t keep the clean sheet though and in truth, they didn’t deserve to.
Francisco Arce’s side were dominated in that game as they had just 34% of the possession and managed only seven shots to their opponents 18. They have home advantage tonight – and they did win all three of their group games at General Pablo Rojas – but I have my concerns about their form in general as they’ve won three of 14 in all competitions.
Cruzeiro are back in the Libertadores for the first time since 2025 following their romp to the Brazilian league title last term. After losing two of their first three in the group stage, Marcelo Oliveira’s men stepped it up a gear to take
