Torres Drought Continues
Fernando Torres was once one of the most feared strikers in the English Premier League. One remembers him tearing the fearsome Nemanja Vidic to shreds at Old Trafford. Yet the Spanish striker that is often referred to as El Nino looks a shadow of his former self at the moment, and his slump plumbed new depths in Chelsea’s Europa League fixture with Sparta Prague.
The former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid hitman, who has over 100 caps for the reigning European and World champions, looks absolutely bereft of confidence at present. This is hardly surprising considering he has scored just once in fourteen appearances, and despite a host of presentable chances against the Czech side, Torres was unable to end this barren spell.
With a revolution highly likely to take place at Stamford Bride in the summer, with a change of management pretty much inevitable, and the club likely to back their new boss with significant funds, which could include a move for the likes of Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani, we could be witnessing the last months of Fernando Torres in English football. What was once a fearsome and feared site has turned into one of the biggest transfer flops in the history of football, with Chelsea unlikely to recoup more than 30% of the £50 million they paid to Liverpool just two years ago.
