Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Tottenham fans will be praying that good news emanates from the north east of England, as they face Newcastle’s neighbours Sunderland at White Hart Lane. Once again, Tottenham are reliant on Arsenal slipping up on the final day of the season if they are to claim Champions League football.
This was a barely imaginable scenario when Arsenal lost tamely to Tottenham in March, with Spurs establishing a four point lead over their rivals at that time. Arsenal looked shambolic at times during that fixture, particularly defensively, and the chances of them going on the nine match unbeaten run that they have since then looked remote.
Tottenham’s results have held up pretty well during this period, but their reliance on Gareth Bale to inspire them to victory has hurt them at times, even though they remain a very strong outfit. Should they finish fifth in the table, there is no doubt that speculation will immediately intensify regarding the future of Gareth Bale at the club, and indeed, whether he has one.
Spurs know that due to their vastly inferior goal difference to Arsenal that a draw will be useless for them in this fixture. Only a win will be good enough to give them any chance whatsoever of achieving Champions League football, which has been their aim for the season from day one.
Their opponents for this fixture, Sunderland, have already achieved their aim, which was simply to stay in the division. Paolo di Canio has already ensured that he will remain in the Sunderland hotseat for at least another season, but such is his intensity that one can expect the Black Cats to give a good account of themselves here.
Tottenham are unlikely to make many changes to the team that beat Stoke City by two goals to one last week. This will mean the ex-Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor will be leading the Spurs line and attempting to deny his former employers a place in Europe’s top competition.

Betting Prediction
Tottenham really have far more motivation for this fixture than Sunderland and should win on this basis alone. Sunderland will without doubt approach the game in a professional fashion, but it is very rare for a team that has nothing to play for sees off one that is particularly motivated, especially when the motivated team is the better of the two. Thus, I’m tipping Spurs to win this comfortably by two goals to nil.
Final Scoreline Prediction:Tottenham Hotspur 2 – 0 Sunderland
Other Recommended Bets: Under 2.5 Goals, Both Teams not to Score.
