United Still Fail to Convince
After Manchester United’s victory over Real Sociedad in the Champions League, new manager David Moyes took the party line that all was now well with the world, and that the team had played extremely well. Similarly, Wayne Rooney opined that he was enjoying his football under his new manager and that Sir Alex Ferguson’s recently released book confirmed that he hadn’t ever wanted to leave Manchester United.
Actually, it said the complete opposite. Meanwhile, reviews of United’s performance against a mediocre Real Sociedad were lukewarm. The Guardian pointed out that better quality opposition will make more of their chances against sides who cannot score enough goals.
Moyes is still feeling his way into the role at Old Trafford, and the club have managed to put together a four game unbeaten run. But the lack of goals up front will concern supporters, and there is huge pressure on Moyes to get things right over the next weeks, with United certain to be eighth in the league for at least another fortnight.
