“It is worth considering the Asian handicap for an odds-against bet. Eight of Liverpool’s 11 away wins under Brendan Rodgers have been by two-plus goals.”

Andrew Atherley reckons Liverpool’s goalscoring prowess will give them a decisive edge over West Brom in Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off

Buoyed by their derby demolition of Everton, Liverpool will bid to keep the momentum going against a West Brom side still adjusting to life under new coach Pepe Mel. Both clubs have been quiet in the January transfer window, although Shane Long’s move from West Brom to Hull has reduced Mel’s already scant options up front.
Match Odds
Liverpool’s only two losses in their last 10 Premier League games were away to Manchester City and Chelsea and it is significant that their other matches in that run – all against teams below them in the table – have brought seven wins and one draw. That makes them strong favourites and 1.654/6 is not a bad price considering their stats against the lesser teams – they have won 10 out of 12 against bottom-half teams (W2 D1 L1 away) but, more notably, have won four out of five (with one draw) away to the bottom 12 home teams (West Brom rank 14th in that category).
West Brom’s form under Steve Clarke hit the buffers from the start of 2025 and has never really recovered – only Stoke have accumulated fewer points since January 1 last year. The Baggies have a W0 D2 L3 home record against big-six teams since the start of 2025, which gives them some hope of a point but indicates a win is unlikely.
Mel appears to favour the high pressing game used by Southampton (and which brought success for the Saints against Liverpool with their 1-0 win at Anfield) but he has yet to keep a clean sheet after a home 1-1 against Everton and Monday’s 4-3 defeat at Aston Villa, where the Baggies lost a two-goal lead.
West Brom’s defensive frailty is a crucial factor, as they have kept only three clean sheets at the Hawthorns all season – two of which were against Sunderland and Crystal Palace (pre-Tony Pulis) – and their home record when conceding is W0 D4 L4.
Liverpool have some defensive problems of their own, which means they don’t win as often as they should when scoring away (W4 D3 L3 this season) but still the likelihood on current form is that they will win.
Asian Handicap
Rather than taking short odds about a Liverpool win or over 2.5 goals, even if both seem likely, it is worth considering the Asian handicap for an odds-against bet. Liverpool
