West Ham United v Arsenal – Match Preview and Betting Tips
Arsenal's tricky March continues with two away fixtures over the Christmas period, the first of them at Upton Park against West Ham United. While this is by no means viewed as the key London derby for either club, it will nevertheless certainly be a passionate affair, played as it will be in front of a packed and feisty Boxing Day crowd.
Nonetheless, the Gunners will be strong favourites to win this game, purely because of West Ham's pretty dismal recent form. Desperately short of strikers, the Hammers have struggled to put the ball in the back of the net, and it was even observed against Manchester United that their usually sturdy defence was a little ramshackle.
Thus, given they are playing arguably the best passing team in the Premier League, this will be an extremely tough task for the Hammers, and they may consider a put gained with a resolute performance to be a more than acceptable outcome. Arsenal, meanwhile, will feel that this is game that they must win if they are to mount a serious title challenge this season.
I fancy then that we will see West Ham set up a blanket defence in this game, with the away side enjoying long spells of possession. Although Arsenal are an attacking side, they perhaps lack a little bit of a cutting edge at times, due to the fact that they don't have a truly top class striker, and while the return of Theo Walcott has improved their goal scoring potential, they must surely seek a more mobile and prolific forward to lead their line than Olivier Giroud in the summer, if not before.
Thus, for my ‘Daily Dynamo Selection’ I'm looking at the over / under 2.5 goals market, and it should be clear from my prognosis that I'm tipping the under 2.5 goals selection.
