Will Wayne Rooney Quit Old Trafford?
With one monumental exit already confirmed at Old Trafford with Sir Alex Ferguson finally calling time on his mammoth managerial career, the last thing many of the Old Trafford faithful would presumably want is to see another big name walking out on the club. Thus, the news that Wayne Rooney has requested a transfer was not particularly timely for United fans.
However, this news has not been met with the sort of dismay that it was the last time Rooney stated that he wished to leave Old Trafford. The forward has endured an ordinary season, with his position in the first-team not even guaranteed. Robin van Persie has become the premier forward at Old Trafford, as Rooney has been an increasingly marginalised figure, even being benched for the key Champions League clash with Real Madrid. Many United fans would like to see the club sell Rooney and attempt to replace him with Borussia Dotrmund’s Robert Lewandowski.
Incoming Manchester United manager, David Moyes, has, of course, worked with Rooney before at Everton, and it seems likely that he will try to encourage a player that he knows well to stay at his new club. But whether the best days of Rooney at Old Trafford are already behind him remains to be seen.
