Willian Race is On

What looked to be a cut and dried transfer deal just got complicated. Tottenham were widely assumed to be completing a deal for the Brazilian midfielder Willian, with Sky Sports confirming that Tottenham had agreed personal terms with the player and having even conducted a medical ahead of a mooted £30 million transfer.

But with Spurs anticipating an exciting arrival that would offset the loss of their mercurial winger Gareth Bale – who according to the BBC is on the verge of a transfer to Real Madrid – Chelsea have now apparently entered the race. The BBC are reporting that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has given the Stamford Bridge hierarchy the green light to move for Willian.

This would seem to indicate that Mourinho might be ready to offer Juan Mata to Manchester United in an attempt to prise Wayne Rooney away from Old Trafford. goal indicate that the Blues will offer Mata in a possible deal for Rooney in the next few days.
